Would you like to learn something new, a creative and mindful activity? We have the perfect event for you! Join our wonderful volunteer Shelly, who has a BA in Fine Art and lots of love for our wonderful blue spaces, to create your very own paracord toggle!

Here's what Shelly had to say about her activity.

I chose this craft because for me working with paracord is not only creative and enjoyable, but it can also be a really effective way of keeping my mind calm and helping me relax.
When I am working with the cord I must concentrate on what my hands are doing.
I am thinking about the pattern, counting the wraps, tightening the knots, and making sure everything stays neat. This helps me to switch off from the other thoughts and concentrate on what I am doing in the moment.

I see it as mindfulness through craft.
Mindfulness is about paying attention to the present moment rather than worrying about what has happened or what might happen next. When I am weaving and knotting the cord I am concentrating on one small step at a time.

I love the sense of achievement when I finish each toggle, starting with a simple piece of cord and through patience and concentration can turn them into something useful and attractive.
I think crafts like this can be good for mindfulness and the wellness because this craft gives you time away from the screens and and everyday distractions. They encourage creativity patience and concentration and completing something with your own hands can give you a real sense of satisfaction.
So, when I create my paracord art for me it is not just the making of them, it is about taking sometimes out for me focusing on the process and enjoying my time making my toggles and enjoyimg time for myself. No worries no stress just pure focus on the moment in time.
